Sketchbook Pages 8.

In these pages, I have started to expand my idea of "defacing" Jesus. Using Ary Scheffer's Jesus Weeping Over Jerusalem, 1851, as my main reference, simply as Scheffer has exposed a large portion of Jesus' neck, which to me, is a good area to cover with tattoos. I got the idea of completely giving Jesus a contemporary make-over, because I thought it would be funny, in all honesty - I wanted that man-bun, leather jacket look on Jesus, as it would compliment the new aesthetic I would be bestowing upon Jesus. For His tattoos, I looked at compositions that would be relevant to Him, like a portrait of His mother, the Virgin Mary, symbols of the crucifix or thorns, etc. My artistic skills weren't at a satisfactory level, however, I had planned for the Biblical quote 'On His robe and on His thigh, He has this written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.' Revelations 19:16, in a simple tattoo font, and to have shading around the outside of the lettering. Moreover, a simple portrait of the Virgin Mary - which I had to use a mixture of a Virgin Mary effigy we have in the house, and my face, as a reference - with a possible attachment of a traditional 'MOM' tattoo, a Post Malone style crown of thorns - which was originally going to be a small filler tattoo, but I wanted more out of the idea.

To test my ideas, I have started a small watercolour piece, as to see whether the tattoos work, especially with how Jesus' neck is posed within Scheffer's piece.
